by Rapper Lil Peep, real name Gustav Ahr, has died from an apparent drug overdose. He was only 21 years old.
His manager confirmed the news on Twitter, writing, “I?ve been expecting this call for a year. Mother f**k.”
First Access Entertainment?s CEO Sarah Stennett addressed the death of the burgeoning star: “I am shocked and heartbroken,? she wrote. ?I do not believe Peep wanted to die, this is so tragic. He had big goals and dreams for the future which he had shared with me, his team, his family, and his friends. He was highly intelligent, hugely creative, massively charismatic, gentle, and charming. He had huge ambition and his career was flourishing.?
Stennett also passed along words from Peep?s family. ?I have spoken to his mother and she asked me to convey that she is very, very proud of him and everything he was able to achieve in his short life,? she added. ?She is truly grateful to the fans and the people who have supported and loved him.?
Peep’s lyrics and social media posts often referenced cocaine, ecstasy, and Xanax use. In August he came out as bisexual.
Peep released his first full-length album earlier this year, and gain a lot of fans on social media.
Several celebrities have paid tribute to him online, including actress Bella Thorne, who once dated the rapper. “To anybody out there who is a Lil Peep fan you guys know how talented he was,” she told her followers on Instagram. “How good he was. Well, he was even more f**king great as a person.”
News of the rapper’s death sparked an outpouring of grief from his fellow hip-hop musicians, with Post Malone particularly hard hit.
?In the short time that i knew you, you were a great friend to me and a great person,? he wrote in a Tweet alongside a picture of himself with Peep. ?That included your music changed the world and it?ll never be the same. i love you bud. forever.?
