Kanye West Opens Up About ‘Yeezus” at NYC Listening Event (Video)

Say anything you want about Kanye West, but he has earned the right to do things his way and that's what he's doing for his forthcoming studio album, Yeezus. During an impromptu listening party at Milk Studios in New York on Monday night, West made it clear to attending press and the eyeing public that this album was about creating a classic soundtrack for fans without the media and radio intruding.

"The way we worked on this shit, really collectively, collaboratively, we didn’t give a fuck about what nobody said from the outside looking in, anything. We just wanted to make the best product possible and this is just the beginning of an entirely new mentality of how to make music directly for the people. We drop this shit June 18th, this ain't about waiting til August…It’s about delivering some shit for ya’ll to go to work to, ride to, listen to when you’re working out and shit, whatever ya’ll doing to provide a soundtrack for this shit. We’re gonna keep on doing this shit over and over and over, making shit from my core, from my gut."

Check out the rest of the clip below. Yeezus, executive produced by Rick Rubin, drops June 18th. The set will feature collaboration and appearances from Chief Keef, Bon Iver's Justin Vernon, Travi$ Scott, Hudson Mohawke, Mike Dean, and Daft Punk.
