Many Snoop Dogg Followers Jumped Ship After Trump Inauguration Performance

Snoop Dogg, a name synonymous with West Coast rap, is now making headlines for all the wrong reasons. The rapper icon, known for his larger-than-life persona and long-standing critiques of Donald Trump, shocked fans when he performed at the Crypto Ball, a celebration of Trump’s January 17 inauguration. The backlash has been swift, with Snoop losing over 571,000 Instagram followers and nearly 20,000 on X (formerly Twitter), according to reports from The New York Post.

The performance has stirred controversy, especially given Snoop’s past comments condemning Black artists who supported Trump. A former Obama staffer didn’t mince words, labeling the rapper a hypocrite: “Who would have guessed that Snoop Dogg would end up being one of the ‘Uncle Tom ass n-ggers’ he himself railed against not long ago? What a fucking sellout,” they posted on X.

But the 53-year-old rap legend isn’t backing down. In a fiery Instagram video, Snoop defended his actions, saying: “Y’all can’t hate enough me for me, I love too much. Get your life right, stop worrying about mine. I’m cool, I’m together. Still a Black man. Still a hundred percent Black. I ain’t going nowhere, cuh! I’m right here. Get the Crypto on Crip, though.” He also addressed his critics, particularly within the Black community, urging them to focus on lifting each other up instead of tearing each other down: “We gotta learn to pick each other up instead of pulling each other down… I’m a strong Black man, I’m cut from a different cloth. You can’t tear me down.”

Snoop’s performance and subsequent fallout point to a larger shift in his relationship with Trump. Once a vocal critic of the former president, the rapper softened his stance after Trump pardoned Death Row Records co-founder Michael “Harry O” Harris in 2021. In an interview with The Sunday Times, Snoop explained his new perspective: “Donald Trump? He ain’t done nothing wrong to me. He has done only great things for me. He pardoned Michael Harris. So I have nothing but love and respect for Donald Trump” (The Hill).

Still, fans are split. While some view Snoop’s actions as a betrayal of his earlier principles, others admire his unapologetic attitude. His defiance in the face of criticism only reinforces his status as a cultural icon, unafraid to navigate the murky waters of politics and personal evolution.

For now, Snoop seems unbothered by the uproar. His message is clear: love him or hate him, he’s not going anywhere. As he told his followers: “I’m one of God’s children, and I’m taking the load.”
