Chris Brown Files $500M Lawsuit Against Warner Bros Over Documentary Claims

R&B singer Chris Brown has filed a $500 million lawsuit against Warner Brothers, challenging allegations made in the Investigation Discovery’s docuseries “Chris Brown: A History of Violence.” The lawsuit, filed Tuesday in Los Angeles Superior Court, contests the series’ portrayal of Brown and its claims regarding his past conduct.

“To put it simply, this case is about the media putting their own profits over the truth,” Brown’s legal team stated in court documents. They argue that Ample LLC and Warner Brothers proceeded with the production despite being notified in October 2024 that they were “promoting and publishing false information.”

The Grammy winner’s lawsuit claims the production company ignored exculpatory evidence before release. According to documents obtained by Rolling Stone, the suit specifically addresses a “Jane Doe” featured in the series, stating she “had not only been discredited repeatedly but was, in fact, a perpetrator of intimate partner violence and an aggressor herself.”

Court filings reference a January 2022 civil lawsuit filed by Jane Doe alleging sexual assault and battery against Brown. The case was dismissed in August after a Miami Beach Police detective uncovered text messages that reportedly contradicted the accusations, leading to the withdrawal of Doe’s legal representation.

Brown has pledged to donate “a portion” of any damages awarded to organizations supporting sexual abuse survivors. The lawsuit comes in the wake of controversy surrounding his December 2024 performances in South Africa.

“This case is about protecting the truth,” said Levi McCathern, Brown’s attorney. “Their actions undermine not only Mr. Brown’s decade-long efforts to rebuild his life but also the credibility of true survivors of violence.”

Warner Brothers has not yet responded to requests for comments regarding the Virginia-born artist’s allegations.
