Headlining the event is the enigmatic D’Angelo, performing alongside The Roots. This marks a significant comeback for the neo-soul pioneer, whose last major appearance was during the “Verzuz Presents: D’Angelo vs. Friends” event at the Apollo Theater in 2021. Fans have eagerly awaited his return, and this performance promises to be a festival highlight.
Philadelphia’s own Meek Mill will join the lineup, bringing his dynamic and empowering anthems to the hometown crowd. Known for his energetic performances and street-tale lyrics, Meek Mill’s presence underscores the festival’s commitment to showcasing local talent alongside international stars.
The festival also features performances by Pusha T and 2 Chainz, both renowned for their distinctive styles and contributions to the hip-hop landscape. Pusha T, celebrated for his penetrating lyrics and unique cadence, continues to push the genre’s boundaries. 2 Chainz, with his charismatic delivery and eclectic beats, promises a set that’s both thrilling and unforgettable.
In a special festival highlight, Jeezy will commemorate the 20th anniversary of his seminal album, “Let’s Get It: Thug Motivation 101.” This performance offers fans a nostalgic journey through the tracks that solidified his place in hip-hop history.
Beyond the headliners, the Roots Picnic 2025 offers a rich tapestry of musical genres. From the soulful melodies of Musiq Soulchild, celebrating the 25th anniversary of “Aijuswanaseing,” to the groundbreaking sounds of Kaytranada, attendees can expect a diverse and exhilarating musical experience. Additional performers for the Roots Picnic 2025 include Latto, GloRilla, Miguel, Tems, Kur, Elmiene, Backyard Band featuring Cee Lo Green, Jagged Edge, CeCe Peniston, Crystal Waters, Lay Banks, and Laila! The Roots Picnic has a storied history of bringing together diverse artists for unique collaborations. In 2016, Usher headlined the festival, delivering a memorable performance backed by The Roots. The 2023 edition saw Ms. Lauryn Hill reunite with The Fugees, creating an unforgettable experience for attendees. Last year’s event featured performances from André 3000, Jill Scott, Babyface, Shaboozey, Gunna and more
Beyond the main stage, the Roots Picnic offers a rich tapestry of cultural experiences. Attendees can look forward to day parties such as Trap Karaoke and Chill Vibes featuring DJ Aktive.
