After all the talk about him getting snubbed for the Super Bowl halftime show in his city, rap superstar Lil Wayne is flipping the script and making the moment his own. Through a Cetaphil lotion commercial, the music icon announced the upcoming release of ‘Tha Carter VI,’ officially dropping on June 6, 2025.
And he did it in the most unexpected way. In the hilarious ad called “We’re All a Lil Sensitive,” Weezy pokes fun at himself for not being picked for the Super Bowl stage before sharing “something special.”
If you were paying close attention, you would’ve seen the date hidden on jerseys and a scoreboard throughout the ad. And just in case it wasn’t clear, the final scene drives it home: Wayne gets offered Super Bowl tickets and casually declines, nodding toward the date 06-06-25 instead.
For weeks, the conversation around Lil Wayne revolved around why the NFL didn’t tap him to perform at Super Bowl LIX (Kansas City Chiefs vs Philadelphia Eagles), especially with the game happening in his hometown, New Orleans. Fans were heated, hip-hop heads were confused, and even media personalities called it a major oversight.
Wayne didn’t shy away from his feelings about it, either. In an interview with Skip Bayless, he admitted that the snub “hurt a whole lot.” But instead of dwelling on it, he turned the situation into inspiration. What better way to bounce back than using their biggest event to promote your own?
It’s been seven years since Tha Carter V dropped, but Wayne’s been in rare form lately, dropping heavy-hitting features and reminding people why he’s still in his bag. Over the past year, he’s been on tracks with French Montana, Rick Ross, Ye, Ty Dolla $ign, Flau’jae, and DJ Premier, proving his pen is still as sharp as ever.
Beyond the music, Weezy wrapped his first show in Hawaii in 13 years and has been expanding his Young Money empire.
