Mac’s Lost Tapes Finally Drop: “Balloonerism” Hits Different

via YouTube

The universe finally blessed us with new Mac Miller heat – “Balloonerism” just touched down, and it’s everything day-one fans been waiting for. The late Pittsburgh legend’s estate came through with this gem from the vault, dropping it alongside some trippy visuals on Prime. This ain’t just any release though – we’re talking prime Mac era, straight from when he was cooking up “Faces” back in ’14. The whole joint is Mac doing what he did best: pushing boundaries and breaking rules, mixing that soul-drenched sound with jazzy vibes and psyched-out hip-hop that’ll have your mind right.

The features on this joint? Straight flames from start to finish. SZA floated through with them angelic vocals that got everybody in their feelings, while Thundercat went crazy on them bass lines. And when Mac’s alter ego Delusional Thomas popped out? Bruh. Pure insanity. That 12-minute closer “Tomorrow Will Never Know” got everybody floating, but real ones know tracks like “5 Dollar Pony Rides” and “Friendly Hallucinations” hitting just as hard. The way Mac was playing with sounds on this one got everybody remembering why he was different – man was really experimenting with the craft while keeping it raw and real.

This drop came with something extra special too – a whole animated short film that’s just as wild as the album. Director Samuel Jerome Mason really went crazy with the visuals, cooking up this story about some kids who get transported to another dimension through a magic organ. The whole thing premiered at Tyler’s Camp Flog Gnaw last November, but they held the full drop for Mac’s birthday, showing mad respect.

SZA also hopped on social media after the release to share some real memories about Mac – reminding everybody that this ain’t just music, it’s legacy. Most beautiful part? Even from another plane, Mac still got the power to bring the whole culture together.

Long live Mac. ️
