by The trial of rapper A$AP Rocky, born Rakim Mayers, is currently underway in Los Angeles, where he faces two felony counts of assault with a semiautomatic firearm. The charges stem from a November 2021 incident in Hollywood involving his former friend and A$AP Mob member, Terell Ephron, known as A$AP Relli.
On January 28, 2025, Relli took the stand to share his account of the events leading up to and during the alleged shooting. He testified that prior to the incident, he received text messages from A$AP Rocky that he perceived as threatening, including one that read, “Let’s get to it… stop ducking my calls.”A$AP Relli claimed that after a series of exchanges, Rocky arrived at his Hollywood hotel accompanied by two individuals. An argument ensued, during which Rocky allegedly brandished a firearm. Rell recounted expressing his willingness to defend his dignity, reportedly telling Rocky, “You better use that sh*t, what the f**k you got a gun for?” He alleged that Rocky then fired the weapon, causing a bullet to graze his knuckles. 
A$AP Rocky’s defense attorney, Joe Tacopina, has contested Relli’s version of events, asserting that the firearm in question was a prop used to de-escalate a confrontation. Tacopina emphasized that Rocky is eager to share his side of the story, stating, “He’s very articulate and intelligent, he’s a good human being and that will come out if he testifies.” The defense has also highlighted the absence of physical evidence, such as shell casings or fingerprints, at the scene, suggesting that Relli’s allegations may be financially motivated. 
If convicted, A$AP Rocky could face up to 24 years in prison, a verdict that would significantly impact his career and personal life. The trial has garnered widespread attention, not only due to the serious nature of the charges but also because of Rocky’s high-profile relationship with singer Rihanna, with whom he shares two children. Reports indicate that Rihanna may attend the trial to support Rocky, marking a notable public appearance for the couple during this legal battle.
