Per his interview with The Boombox, Mez’s problem-solving skills are what led him went to college for engineering, but his heart was always in the music; his tape Long Live The King exemplified his heartfelt approach.
His song “Heart Drive” is an example of his lyricism; it’s not all about partying, rather his music has a pulse. Mez opts for soulfully-sampled tracks. “Funny n*ggas out here, gotta back my heart drive up,” he rhymes.
After all, a king must be in touch with his head as well as his heart to be able to rule effectively.
