MC Lyte – Dear John Ft. Common

MC Lyte’s brand new track, "Dear John," featuring Common & 10Beats, is a stepping stone to help put positivity into words. Attempting to convey a powerful message to African-American fathers and their sons, this song is the anthem for the Brooklyn native’s #EducateOURMen movement.

#EducateOURMen is the signature scholarship initiative of MC Lyte's Hip Hop Sisters Foundation. The video highlights images of very prominent and influential African American leaders. including but not limited to, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., Malcolm X, Jackie Robinson and Frederick Douglas. While the visual flashes clips of black fathers and their children, the song serves as the headlining single from Lyte’s forthcoming LP.

It’s been about 11 years since the Emcee has released any work of her own and for this to be the first song released in over a decade, I can’t wait to hear more. With the release of her new project set for early 2015, this just might be the most highly anticipated LP of her career.

Check out the video above and listen as the lyrical legends drop knowledge on the track.
