Tupac-Themed Broadway Musical Gets Official Opening Date

After a quick snag in plans to bring the Tupac musical to Broadway due to lack of available theaters, the show will indeed go on!

AllHipHop.com is reporting that the musical based on the slain rapper’s music titled, Holler If Ya Hear Me, has an official opening date of June 19, and will be open for previews a few weeks prior on May 26. Kenny Leon (who worked with another hip-hop head/ mogul P. Diddy during his stint on Broadway in A Raisin in the Sun) is heading the production, which is the tale of two childhood friends growing up in an industrial Midwest city as they struggle to reconcile the challenges and realities of their daily lives with their hopes, dreams and ambitions. Tupac’s music and lyrics will be sprinkled in as inspiration behind the plot and characters’ conflicts.

Tupac’s mother, Afeni Shakur, will be a producer, along with Eric L. Gold, Chun-soo Shin and Jessica Green. Casting choices are yet to be publicly announced. Holler If Ya Hear Me is written by Todd Kreidler.
