Jay-Z Announces ‘Magna Carta’ Release on July 4, Earlier for Samsung Galaxy Owners

So that’s what Hov was up to with that $20 million Samsung contract!

Last week, it was reported that Jay was on the verge of signing a contract with Samsung, but deets were sparse. But as of yesterday (June 16) on an ad spot during game 5 of the NBA championship, Jay revealed he’s releasing his twelfth studio album called Magna Carta Holy Grail on July 4. The 3-minute spot also featured Rick Rubin, Timbaland, and Pharrell Williams as they showed their creative process in the studio.

"The album is about this duality of how do you navigate your way through this whole thing, through success and through failures, and remain yourself?" Jay said in the ad.

And for those of you who own a Samsung Galaxy S3, Galaxy S4 and Galaxy Note 2 smartphone: Samsung has already purchased $1 million copies of the album to give to the first one million Galaxy owners who download a special app, which goes on sale on June 24.

This means that Jay doesn’t have to worry about album sales…he’ll be the first artist to go platinum before his album is even released! Can you say genius marketing!?
