Lil Wayne Loses Pepsi Endorsement Over Emmett Till Lyric, Launches Footwear Line

After pressure from Emmett Till’s family on Pepsi to drop Lil Wayne as their celebrity spokesperson, the soft drink company finally buckled under the pressure and released the rapper from his contract.

Ever since Wayne’s controversial lyric in Future's "Karate Chop (Remix)," the backlash slowly built momentum from fans and the Till family, who suggested Pepsi stop supporting the rapper. Wayne issued an apology in an open letter last week, which the Till family felt fell short.

Now the drink giant has cut their ties, stating in a statement, “His offensive reference to a revered civil rights icon does not reflect the values of our brand.” This comes days after an ad featuring Tyler, the Creator was deemed too controversial.

However, the phrase “when one door closes, another one opens” must be Wayne’s motto right now! He may have lost his Pepsi endorsement, but he’s gained a new sneaker line called Spectre by Supra.

Lil Wayne's Supra Kicks

Launched in Miami on Friday night (May 3), the skating brand partnered with Weezy after noticing his new passion for skateboarding. “I’ve been rocking this shoe before I even knew what it was, so for me to start skating now and shoe lines start coming at me, it would’ve been only right to mess with the people I been rocking with,” he told MTV News.

The shoes will drop into a store near you later this month.
