by Rapper/actor Will Smith has signed on for the lead in the upcoming film “The City That Sailed,” which tells the story of a father and daughter whose bond is tested when the island of Manhattan (New York City) breaks loose and sails across the Atlantic Ocean.
Also produced by Smith through his Overbook Entertainment, Shawn Levy (Real Steel, Date Night) is on board to direct.
Smith’s last film, After Earth, co-starring his son Jaden Smith, failed to make any impact at the box office.
In related news, he is also being tipped to reprise his role as Captain Steven Hiller in a sequel to “Independence Day,” which was recently pushed back to a July 2016 release date – exactly 20 years after the original film came out.
